For their souls' sake...

"What we teach the children may very well determine where they will spend eternity.  We are to nourish their souls by teaching God's Word correctly, so that those who hear will believe in him and be saved.  We should not say or do anything that will cause one of these children to fall into sin or become an unbeliever.  As teachers, we may offend them, that is, make them stumble and fall into sin.  We do this by setting a bad example, by having a condescending attitude toward them, or by being careless in what we teach...For their souls' sake let us ever be on our guard, so that we teach them the law and the gospel properly.  Their parents entrust them to us, expecting us to teach them the truth."  William E. Fischer - Teaching Law and Gospel
