School: Day Last!

Ahhhh, the last day of school is today. Simply put this means I can begin looking forward to the first read of the summer.

Several weeks ago I was ambling through the dollar store and discovered Michael Weinreb's book, The Kings of New York: A year among the geeks, oddballs, and geniuses who make up America's top high school chess team.

I don't know how to play chess and don't have the desire to learn. So why did this book entice me? The cost, the title, the cover picture.

Another book on the list is Cormac McCarthy's novel, The Road. This book recommendation surfaced from several students and then surfaced on the open-ended question for the AP Lit exam this year. Hmmmm, students recommending reads that posses literary merit? I've got to check it out.
