Perpetual round of entertainments...

My AP Lit class just finished reading Neil Postman's text, Amusing Ourselves to Death.  As an assessment, my students are explaining Postman connections in today's culture.  I discovered one as well.

With apologies to Neil Postman, I offer this copy/change connection:

"When a population  church becomes distracted by trivia performance, when cultural worship life is redefined as a perpetual round of entertainments, when serious public conversation confession, the teaching and preaching of God’s Word become a form of baby-talk, when, in short, a people congregation becomes an audience, and their public business its worship a vaudeville act, then a nation the flock finds itself at risk; culture spiritual-death is a clear possibility."

 

"About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God.
